Timekeeping and age
Older timepieces do not keep time as accurately as newer ones, primarily due to advancements in technology and the natural wear and tear of their movements, even if they have been regularly serviced over the years.
Following the advice of experienced watchmakers, we have assembled a general information form, which you can find below, providing realistic expectations for mechanical watches of different ages.
Vintage Watches (over 30 years old):
Rolex: ±20 seconds per day.
Omega: ±20 to 40 seconds per day.
Neo-Vintage Watches (15 years and older):
Rolex: ±10 to 15 seconds per day.
Omega: ±15 to 25 seconds per day.
Modern Watches (15 years and younger):
Rolex: ±5 seconds per day.
Omega: ±15 seconds per day.
*It's important to note that there can be significant variations in the precision of individual watch movements due to factors such as price ranges and the quality of the movements. For example, differences may be observed between Omega De Ville and Omega Constellation models. Therefore, the expectations for watch precision should be relative to the original quality of the manufactured watch.
